Long Description :
Known affectionately as ‘the Big South’, South Caicos is the one of the smaller islands in the Turks and Caicos archipelago and home to approximately 900 residents. Historically the island was a port for salt exporting between the islands. Currently, the island is known as the fishing capital of the Turks and Caicos, their main export relying on the catch of deep sea fishing and bone fishing. Fishing is the main economic gain for locals on the island. Travel to this unique island by a 90 min boat ride on the TCI Ferry or by plane.
The island is known for its charm- you will find numerous quaint homes from the early 20th century preserved by time. South Caicos is surrounded by untouched reefs; a pure haven for marine enthusiasts. The island is home to the School of Marine Ecology- a part of the School for Field Studies (accredited by Boston University) study abroad program. Countless students visit the island to study our numerous marine creatures such as sea turtles, dolphins, wales, sharks, and much more.
